We stayed overnight in the city of Exeter at Exeter University. We were extremely happy to see it after sitting on the motorway for several hours due to a really bad wreck. In the light of day, the accommodations were even better than expected. Of course, all it took to impress myself and one of tutors was a little nutella with breakfast. It's so addictive, that little thing of nutty, chocolaty goodness!
After breakfast we loaded up the bus and our driver once again attempted to take our large bus into places almost too tight to fit but did eventually make it to Exeter Cathedral. This was my first visit here but it is a lovely space. The Cathedral was began in 1112 and the original portion was built in the Norman (Romanesque) style. Some parts of this original structure survive today but most of what you see is Decorated Gothic style which was done between about 1270 and 1350.
The vaulted ceiling you see in the Nave of the Cathedral was "created as a vision of heaven."
One unique and interesting detail was the stone screen (built between 1317 and 1325). It has 13 paintings of biblical scenes along the front and sides which were added in the 17th century.
