Yesterday we got a taste for the glories of ancient Egypt at the Luxor and Karnak Temples. This morning we treated ourselves to an unbelievable and unforgettable view of Luxor's Valley of the Kings & Queens - in a hot air balloon.
After our sailing above, we landed and began a tour of the sites on land including the Valley of the Kings, Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon.
Nile West Bank to see the famous Necropolis for pharaohs and nobles: The Valley of the Kings most well known for being the place where Tutankhamun's Tomb was discovered. Tutankhamun's treasures are now in Cairo's Egyptian Museum. The Valley of the Kings is a World Heritage site, many of the tombs are closed to the public, and your guide will direct you to the ones that are open.
Queen of Hatshepsut Temple: Dedicated to the first female Pharaoh, set at the head of the valley, this temple is the best example of Egyptian classical style architecture. Built to express the grandeur of the Pharaoh as well as honoring the gods that she would need in the afterlife. After her death, all of her statues were defaced by her son Tuthmosis III.
Stop by the Colossi of Memnon: These are all that remains of the largest and most opulent Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep.
