I've made it to the half-way point... 50.4 miles hiked in 2016 in the GSMNP - woo hoo!  Because of time constraints and the recent pouring rain, we decided to keep it simple today and we returned to Porters Creek in Greenbrier for a short hike - but we added a little to the plan.  Since we were enjoying ourselves so much and doing well on time we explored each little off-shoot from the trail including a long walk around the Hiking Club's cabin and the graveyard.  Once we made it to the falls we pressed on and nearly made it to the campground before running out of time (and probably energy to be honest).  All in we probably did about 7 miles.
