Burning a Boat
When we returned from our day at Portsmouth and Stonehenge we were just in time to see the finale of the Boat Burning in Canterbury Quad. Apparently there is an Oxford University tradition of the winning women's eight crew team burning the winning boat after the spring crew races. I know nothing of crew but apparently this was a huge win for St. John's College this year - it has been 150 years since SJC has won! The idea to burn the boat the day after the race got heartily denied by the College officials but they finally gave in and had the formal ceremony tonight in the middle of the oldest quad in the college, Canterbury Quad. It was real sight to see!
