A Midsummer Night's Dream

I rarely see two Shakespeare productions in one summer but this year I decided to see "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at The Globe when the opportunity presented itself.

From The Globe:

'THE COURSE OF TRUE LOVE NEVER DID RUN SMOOTH.'

Hermia loves Lysander and Helena loves Demetrius – but Demetrius is supposed to be marrying Hermia… When the Duke of Athens tries to enforce the marriage, the lovers take refuge in the woods and wander into the midst of a dispute between the king and queen of the fairies.

This time I went in for the authentic experience of a groundling.  Wikipedia defines a groundling as "a person who frequented the Globe Theatre in the early 17th century and was too poor to pay to be able to sit on one of the three levels of the theatre. By paying one penny, they could stand in "the pit", also called "the yard", just below the stage to watch the play. Standing in the pit was uncomfortable, and people were usually packed in tightly."  I agree.  But the play was worth it!
