After a very nice dinner and evening at the University of Sheffield (and one amazing demonstration of how to get a bus around multiple cars on a very tight curve going down a steep hill), we spent Saturday visiting two more houses associated with Bess of Hardwick (the first being Chatsworth). Bess was a strong woman who married well (many times). At the death of each of her husbands, she gained greater and greater wealth along with higher titles for herself and her children. She was also very proud of herself and her accomplishments - she shouted it in the building of her homes!
"Hardwick Hall, more glass than wall" is among Bess' greatest creations. We had an amazing private tour of the house.
One of the most unique and interesting aspects of the house, in my opinion, is the plasterwork featuring scenes of Diana in the High Great Chamber.
