Safari Itinerary

A few people seem a little concerned about my travelling in Africa so here's my itinerary for the next few weeks so you can follow along my journey or say lots of prayers for my safety.. or both!

Saturday 25 January: Arrive in Nairobi at 8.30 PM and transfer to hotel to meet my group
Sunday 26-28 January: 8 AM  Depart on Safari - drive to Massai Mara Reserve, Kenya (187 miles) where we stay the next two nights.
          Wow Factors: Great Rift Valley, Massai Mara Game Reserve, game drives, Maasai warriors
Tuesday 28 January: Return for overnight in Nairobi before leaving for Tanzania
Wednesday 29 January: Full day of driving (168 miles) and border crossing to Arusha, Tanzania
          Wow Factors: Arusha, curio markets, Mt. Meru, Meserani Snake Park
Thursday 30 January: Serengeti National Park passing through Mto Wa Mbo and Olduvai Gorge
Friday 31 January: Ngorogoro Crater - Africa's largest intact caldera and a World Heritage Site and where we are nearly guaranteed to see the "Big Five" where we camp on the rim of the crater
Saturday 1 February: Ngorogoro Crater game drive and back to Arusha
Sunday 2 February: Arusha to Pagani River beginning with a visit to a local Masai village
          Wow Factors: Masai Culture, Glimpses of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Eastern Arc Mtn Range, Pangani River
Monday 3 February: Pagani Camp to Dar es Salaam (218 miles to the coast)
         Wow Factors: Dar es Salaam camping on the Indian Ocean
Tuesday 4 February: Ferry to Zanzibar Island's Stone Town and Spice Plantations
         Wow Factors: Ancient Stone Town, tour of Spice Plantations
Wednesay 5-7 February: Northern Beaches of Zanzibar
         Wow Factors: Beach! with optional snorkeling or swimming with dolphins
Saturday 8 February: Fly from Zanzibar to Nairobi for 10 PM flight home
Sunday 9 February: Arrive back in Knoxville at 8 PM via Zanzibar, Nairobi, Amsterdam, and Atlanta!
