To the surprise of many, Alex and I attended the NASCAR Sprint Cup Race at Bristol Motor Speedway Saturday night. It was our first race and we were excited! The guy to my right informed me that we were seeing the best; now we agree!
To get the full experience we arrived early and spent several hours wondering through the many tents and the fan zone. We saw Casey Mears signing autographs. We tried driving Tony Stewart's car. We had pulled pork bbq sandwiches for only $5. The real excitement came with the race but before we got to that we heard Darrell Wirley perform, saw some amazing parachutists, helped set the Ripley's World Record for largest fan "wave," and settled in with our neighbors in the stands. We kinda of learned how to use the radio headset Ashley's friend loaned us (Thanks, John!) so we listened to the race and were able to talk to each other above the roar of the engines. Because of the noise you cannot talk during the racing so it reminded me of a silent movie with the people using exaggerated hand motions to communicate with one another. There were a few points where the racing was slow and Kyle Busch was leading but we saw "the big one" and the night ended with lots of enthusiasm after Carl Edwards turned Kyle Busch after the race then blamed it on his hands slipping!
Here are some things I learned:
1. Bring some wipes for when the person behind you spills beer in your hair on lap 3 of 500;
2. Don't be surprised when the woman in front of you has on a tight t-shirt with the back tied up with a gold clip from 1985;
3. There will be many men without shirts and none of them should be;
4. Big hair may not still be in fashion but it is still popular; and
5. You should definitely do this once in your life!

Where have you guys been,raceing is in the blood.But I will have to
tell the guy that said it was the best of the best,never attened a saturday night race at Hictory motor speed way in the old days. Raceing at it best, the track was dirter the people louder,and the crashes better than any you have ever seen. But Bristol is one of the best tracks to see a good clean race.Now that you have a hand on the racing world you must see a good rodeo. Be sure to bring your wipes for this event also,and BODYGARD TO KEEP THE COWBOY IN HAND.
I am so glad you guys had a good time, before you know it fast cars will be in your blood too.

Sorry I am a little slow getting to the site but you do know how it goes sometimes. Glad you enjoyed the race. I haven't attended since the Old Hickoy Speedway races when it was still dirt. Georgia's husband Steve used to race when he was young and he was pretty good in our eyes. I used to go when Uncle George raced. Boy that was a long time ago. Now my only interest in the races is the pre race show. That is what my son Justin is into. The company he works for does this and he is the art/graphic person. But he was not raised on the races so it is not his passion. Now give him BMX dirt bikes or Skateboards and he in heaven. Glad you enjoyed the race. I loved the pictures.
